About Us
Making a Difference
Imagine the school without the monster play wall, foundation garden, the climbing wall and wooden climbing frame, the decked seating area opposite Sunflowers preschool, the wooden buddy seats, the shaded canopies, the reception sandpit, the flat screen monitor in the school reception area, the hall staging, the sports day gazebos, match kit for the school teams and the playground markings and signage.
Then consider the ‘hidden extras’ that quietly happen year on year: the Kingswood Field Trip subsidy for years 5 and 6; the Santa presents for Foundation level and KS1 children; the Christmas trees, crackers, decorations and other party paraphernalia at Christmastime; and the BBQ food and gifts at the Yr 6 leavers party that help celebrate and mark the end of their time at Welford primary.
Your help and support for Friends fundraising events makes a difference.
If you are interested in volunteering as an officer or as a committee member you should know the following:
- The committee meets at school once a term to plan events.
- It does involve you giving up varying degrees of your time but you give only as much as you can.
- You get to use your skills and see your ideas implemented and there is no better way to get to know the school and other parents.
Class reps have at least 1 child in the class they represent and are the point of contact between the FOWS and the parents / teachers in their year. They form The Parent Council who meet once a term with Julie Leeman to share views with her and the Governors. They provide feedback from the playground, assistance in recruiting help for events & sell tickets for socials.
Helpers List
We have an extensive list of parents, grandparents and carers who volunteer to help out at FOWS events, especially the big ones like the Christmas and summer fairs. We appreciate everyone has busy lives – and everyone wants to enjoy the events with their children - so we try to spread the workload by asking a little of a lot of people. All offers of help are much appreciated.

The committee has a turn-over of personnel year on year so the addition of people with fresh ideas and lots of enthusiasm are essential – mums, dads, grandparents as well as people from the local community. As a parent with children new to the school, it’s a great way to meet other parents and involve yourself with school life beyond the playground pick-up and drop-off times.
You can be as involved as little or as much as you like – from standing as an officer or a class rep to attending meetings and helping shape the events as a committee member. If you are unable to commit to a major or regular role, but you have a particular skill to offer or you can spare an hour or two of your time to help out at a disco, fair, tournament, school show, book fair or social, every offer of help is much appreciated.
If you are not already on our helpers list, please contact your class representative.
Thank you
