Welford-on-Avon Primary School

Maths

Intent:

We aim to provide our children with the ability to reason mathematically and understand the world around them, whilst encouraging their curiosity and enjoyment for mathematics.

Through varied and frequent practice, we ensure pupils become confident and fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, which they can then use to make connections and solve problems.

Implementation:

As a school, we follow the Collins Busy Ant Maths scheme of work to organise and implement the teaching of mathematics, to support teachers in their planning against the National Curriculum objectives. This is supplemented with resources from other sources where it is considered appropriate and beneficial, for example - with models and images, practical resources and the vast selection of textbooks we have available in school. Arithmetic skills including times tables are taught and practised throughout the school. All mathematical skills are supported through weekly homework that covers all areas of mathematics.
